Disc brakes allow for better braking than drums, and are more convenient to work on. They decrease stopping distance and need less adjusting than drum brakes. Beetles, ghias, & buses can all be converted to disc brakes front and rear, and we are preparing to convert an early 356A to disc brakes all around also. If you are considering a brake conversion for your vehicle, it is also a good time to think about what wheels you want as many kits can modify your current bolt pattern.

There are many aftermarket kits out there, some do not line up properly and need to be clearance and modified. There are others that can convert even the rear brakes with minimal or no wheel offsetting. We've got years of experience in these conversions and can make sure the brake parts going on your vehicle are the best for your vehicle.

The above pictures show some detailed shots of the front conversion on a 1965 21 window bus. This great ride got a full front and rear conversion among other upgrades. This rear kit actually decreased the wheel offset. Most kits increase it, causing problems with the wheels fitting in the fenders.

We often recommend the disc brake upgrade when maintenance brake work is already necessary. It is often close to the same amount of labor and well worth the extra cost of the parts kit to do the conversion.
